There are two ways to correct the effects of time. The first is to maintain a youthful appearance by treating the problems little by little, as they occur, with smaller, less traumatic aesthetic procedures and less drastic changes. This maintenance program with small constant surgeries is the most common nowadays. But there are those who prefer to let all the signs of aging appear to fight them at the same time.
According to plastic surgeon Rodrigo Mangaravite, whatever the behavior is, the final solution is the facelift, one of the most popular procedures in plastic surgery. But it is good to remember that plastic face surgery does not work miracles such as turning a 60 year old face into a 30 year old. However, the facelift rejuvenates, leaves the face cleaner and gives an excellent result.
When signs of aging, such as loss of jaw contour, cheek drop and sagging skin on the neck, are evident, even after resting and makeup, regardless of the age of the patient. To know what facial surgery can do for you, take a test in front of the mirror: pull your skin with one hand on each side of the face, slightly up and back, being careful not to pull too hard. If the corners of your mouth become distorted, release it slightly. The result of the facelift is a light pull.
According to Dr. Rodrigo Mangaravite, who attends in Ipanema, in Rio de Janeiro, facial plastic surgery should be performed at the first sign of sagging face and neck, while the elasticity of the skin is preserved and the bone structure Is strong and well defined, that is, between 40 and 60 years.
In patients with mild signs of aging in the neck, modern plastic surgery recommends minilifting or facelift with small incisions, in which there are no scars behind the ears. In cases of a lot of sagging skin and changes in the contour of the neck, the traditional technique is used, with incisions behind the ears.
Plastic Surgeon Rodrigo Mangaravite explains that in recent years new techniques have emerged capable of attenuating wrinkles on the forehead and raising the eyebrows with smaller incisions and even with video devices. But in cases of significant signs of aging in the region, traditional facelift surgery still offers better results.
From two to six hours depending on the extent of face plastic surgery. Whether it will include forehead, eyelids, neck and the technique used. It is worth mentioning that Dr. Rodrigo performs all his surgeries with all possible attention and calmness. Following an individualized surgical plan minutely for each patient, using all their technical capacity and resources to arrive at the best possible result, and only then, the surgery can be finished. Dr. Rodrigo only leaves the surgical center when he is sure that he has reached the maximum, the desired result.
Generally helmet type dressing is worn after the plastic on the face, which is removed after a day. It compresses and immobilizes tissues, reducing the chances of bleeding. Usually, a small drain is used, which is removed around 24h. The eyes usually do not get capped, only recommending the use of cotton swabs soaked in cold water on them to reduce the intensity of the edema or swelling.
It is common for the face to become swollen and with purple spots mainly in the first three days after the plastic on the face, especially in the region around the eyes and ears. Do not worry. After the third day, this edema diminishes. It is also normal to feel a stiff neck and face in the first two weeks due to swelling and the healing process.
Smoking is a big enemy of facelift surgery and some surgeons do not even operate smokers because of the problems caused by nicotine in healing. It decreases the flow of blood to the skin. So erase this idea! No cigarette for at least 14 days before surgery.
Make-up should be avoided for at least ten days. After this period, it can be used as long as it is light, but increase the care to remove it. Wash your face gently with mild soap and water or gently remove the makeup with a moistened tissue.
Take a shower normally. Hair can be washed and groomed carefully between the second and seventh days after the face lift. It is important to dry well behind the ear so that the hair does not stick to this region. Keep the scalp well clean.
Avoid using the hair dryer. If it is unavoidable, use it in cold air. Hair dyes can only be made after the third week. It is important to wait for this time to use any more aggressive chemical on the scalp.
Avoid sun exposure for two to three months after face lift surgery. It is essential to apply sunscreen to the face every time you leave the house, regardless of the time, for at least six months after the facelift. Protect your face with a hat, sunglasses and handkerchiefs. These care can help prevent dark spots and scars.
Do not wear earrings for at least a month. Rest for seven days, always keeping your head elevated. Sleep on your belly up. Sleeping on one side can leave one side more swollen than the other. If this occurs, do not worry because the result of the facelift will not be compromised. Try to talk little, stay away from the phone, and do not over smile, to avoid increasing swelling and bleeding.
Do not drink alcoholic beverages a week after face plastic surgery. Alcohol can increase edema. Choose pasta foods that do not require much chewing.
When you need to turn around, do so with your whole body, avoiding tilting your head. Sexual intercourse is prohibited for at least two weeks because of the risk of bleeding and trauma.
Do not make any significant physical effort in the first week after the face lift. Gymnastics, only after a month. Contact exercises, such as sneakers, are only released after two months. Driving, only after three weeks, because jerky head movements can increase swelling and cause neck pain.
Lymphatic drainage is recommended after the facelift, to accelerate the resorption of the swelling and avoid the appearance of irregularities and depressions in the treated areas. They should be started five days after the surgical procedure.
The aging process is continuous. Factors such as genetics, age, race, disease, nutrition and lifestyle contribute to the maintenance of the result over a longer period. But, however good the results may be, it may become necessary to repeat the procedure after about 10 years.
